How Post Modernism Has Effected Me!

Post-moderinsm is huge in my life because it has effected so many arts that I participate in. Firstly, it is huge in dance. Mary Wigman is a huge figure in dance with post modernism. She stepped outside of the boundaries of ballet and became a pioneer of modern dance. When I was little I my parents put me into ballet class. As dance became a bigger part of my life I continued in ballet as well as other forms of dances such as jazz, but not modern. Through out my dance career I always felt like something was missing in my heart. There was actually a time where I stopped dancing completely because I felt like I no longer loved this art. Then one day, in high school, I was introduced to modern dance. At first I thought that it was odd and looked at the dance as just a work out. Then, it began to grow on me and I discovered the freedom in the art. What I love most about modern dance is that it is totally and completely free and has no boundries. My body is free to move as is wishes. So because of  post modernism, and dancers such as Mary Wigman. I am a dancer.

  1. Madison... great picture! The lighting and the movement is wonderful. The ability to express your emotions and ideas through movement is truly a gift, and that artists who came before you enabled the process to let you continue to push and explore boundaries is a blessing indeed. To find something you love to do means no matter how much hard work is required, your passions will rarely be 'work'!

  2. I salute you for following your passion. Post modernism has affected all forms of art but I didn't know that it too affected dance. This I find interesting and I shall look into it more in depth.
